Impressive results at the Senior Maths Challenge!

Published on 10/12/19

Recently, Sixth Form had 23 students take part in the Senior Maths Challenge and the impressive results could not go unmentioned!

The Senior Maths Challenge is run across the UK by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and it comprises of challenging questions which test logic and the ability to problem solve – often it is necessary to think outside of the square!

Students who obtain a good enough score can receive Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
Approximately, the top 10% receive Gold awards, the next 20% Silver and the next 30% Bronze.
The gold award winners are invited to take part in the next round called the Senior Kangaroo. A small minority, only 1000 students across the entire UK (approximately the top 1.6%), qualify for the British Mathematics Olympiad competition (Round 1).

I am very proud of and delighted for our students who obtained 4 Bronze, 3 Silver, 7 Gold and 2
students were invited to take part in the British Olympiad Round 1!

Congratulations to the whole team who did Stephen Perse proud:

Minghao (Andy)

Ziheng (Kanu)

Chunni (Icy)

Xiejun (Stanley)

Special mention must go to Guy, who achieved full marks in the Senior Maths Challenge – this is a
fantastic result which is very rarely achieved. Also a huge congratulations go to Haiyu (Tony) and Zijun (Ivan) who qualified for and took part in the British Olympiad Round 1.

As we celebrate these achievements we eagerly await the results of the Senior Kangaroo and Round
1 of the British Maths Olympiad competition.
