Dame Bradbury's Reception classes joined Kindergarten and Reception classes from the Pre-Prep in Cambridge and Madingley to celebrate Diwali.
A total of 11 different schools across East Anglia enjoyed an inspiring day of Science, Technology and Maths challenges hosted by OBH School. The day challenged the teams to use logical thinking, problem solving, accuracy and their knowledge of the STEM subjects to complete a variety of challenging tasks.
A closely contested game with some excellent rugby from both sides saw Dame B's win by the narrowest of margins. Dame B's played with pace and produced an excellent display of good handling and direct running to score some good tries. The visitors battled hard throughout and also scored some excellent tries thanks to the pace in their attacking play. It was great to see the Year 6 boys working with the Year 5 players to show them that passing and supporting is a good option within a game situation. This allowed for some lovely fluent rugby to be played. Well played boys.
Cross country runners from years 3-6 took part in the Saffron Walden Schools Cross Country competition in chilly conditions. With teams from all of the local schools in attendance, Dame B's runners did excellently. Today's race was a team event, with the top 4 runners from each school making up the team total which then determined overall standings. There were some outstanding individual and team scores and all of the runners should be proud of their efforts.
Talented brass players from Dame Bradbury’s helped to give a lesson to the teachers of tomorrow at The Royal College of Music in London.
Pupils in Years 4-6 were delighted to welcome Robin Stevens, the author of the Murder Most Unladylike series, to Dame B’s on Thursday. She was greeted by our Year 6 librarians, who were thrilled to have the opportunity to interview her. They asked a range of interesting and thoughtful questions, from asking her whether her characters were based on real people, what inspired her to start writing, and whether she had any tips to offer a budding author. Robin loved our fantastic library, with its amazing tree. Our librarians were thrilled that they had spent time with such a successful author.
The U11 and U10 netball teams both secured victories away at Barnardiston. The home side played their first game of the year in what is currently their hockey season. The U11's won their match with a good display of attacking and defending. Izzy Weston was awarded player of the game. The U10's also won their match .The team demonstrated good passing and defensive skills and Amelie Bacon was voted player of the game.
The message from the Harvest Festival was that Harvest is a time to be grateful for what we have and to think about how we can share with others.
Children were very proud to be able to collect so much which has has been sent to the organistion to help people in the local area.
The U9 A team contested a closely fought match against St John's right up until the final whistle. After a slow start to the game, St John's opened up a two try advantage which ultimately proved too much for Dame B's to claw back. A much improved performance as the game progressed, ensured Dame B's matched the hosts in all aspects of the game and tries were scored by both teams.
Dame B's team played some excellent tournament rugby to be crowned Culford Champions for 2016. During all of their matches, they pressurised the opposition when they were in possession and limited their opportunities to score.
On Thursday 6th October, on a gloriously sunny Autumn morning, Year 5 pupils from Junior School and Dame Bradbury's met at Latham Road for their collaborative day on the theme of 'Go Wild'. They quickly and enthusiastically got into groups, renewing old friendships and starting to form new ones. Tracy Grant, from the Exploration Society, kindly donated her time and skill to light a welcoming fire around which we all gathered to sing some campfire songs.
Under bright skies Dame Bradbury's U11 Girls football team made the short journey to Herbert's farm to take part in the USSP Girls Football tournament competing in the large schools section.
The U11 A team played some excellently rugby against the hosts scoring a number of unanswered tries to end up comfortable winners. Kings were unable to cope with our aggression and clinical attacking play, resulting in our boys putting in a strong performance.
The U11 rugby team travelled to the Old Buckenham Hall Rugby 7's tournament on Saturday and came away crowned as champions.
